Baicalin, and its close relative, baicalein, are the primary bioactive flavonoid compounds found in the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis. Baicalin has been shown to offer various pharmacological effects in research, including protection against free radical damage, inflammation modulating, neuroprotective, and immune system support. Of particular interest is Baicalin’s beneficial effects on the central nervous system, which has promising development in research on neurodegeneration, compulsive behavior, nervousness, and low mood.
